The fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (Peds ID) is a structured training program accredited with College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan.

Eligibility Criteria: It is a 2nd fellowship program. Candidates must be FCPS from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan in Pediatrics or be eligible for it.

The Training

It is a full time fellowship program of 2 years duration.

Education:

  • To develop complementary competencies in clinical, epidemiologic, and laboratory sciences related to infectious diseases.
  • Supervising faculty includes pediatric infectious disease consultants, adult infectious disease consultants, microbiologists, radiologists, epidemiologists, and public health/infection control experts.

Academics:

  • Presentations, journal club, guideline reviews and lectures in the respective training centers
  • ID-clinicopathological meeting every month, where fellows are required to present an interesting ID case
  • In-service exam, every month. The exam is prepared according to the FCPS guidelines so that the fellows get the opportunity to have in-depth reading and training in how to appear in final examination

Research:

  • The fellows are required to do an original research and publish their work in a peer reviewed journal during their 2 years training

Examination:

  • FCPS examination requires proof of training in ID and microbiology, e-log book maintenance and proof of acceptance of the research article in a peer reviewed journal.
  • The first examination for FCPS in Peds ID is yet to be held.
