In collaboration with Global Action Funds for Fungal Infection (GAFFI)and Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan (MMIDSP), Aga Khan University is holding 1st International Collaborative Mycology Conference on December 4-6, 2017 at Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan.


The theme of the conference is “Impact of Fungi on Health and Environment


The objectives of the conference are:

  • to improve knowledge and skills of health professionals about fungal infections; to highlight the fungal diseases of public health importance;
  • to increase awareness of optimal use of fungal diagnostics;
  • to provide a platform for developing inter-sectorial links for reducing fungal disease burden in Pakistan.


There would be post conference workshops on:

  • Update on Pulmonary Aspergillosis,
  • IFI in immunocompromised patients,
  • Histopathological diagnosis of fungal infections.


Many international and local speakers such as Professor Malcolm Richardson (University of Manchester and President International Society for Human and Animal Mycology), Professor David Denning (Director, National Aspergillosis Centre, Manchester), Dr. Sajjad Mirza (University Hospital of South Manchester) from UK, Dr. Shawn Lockhart (Director, Fungal Reference Laboratory, Mycotic Diseases Branch) from Center of Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, USA, Professor Rumina Hasan and Professor Afia Zafar from Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, will deliver lectures during the conference.


Multidisciplinary discussions on, burden and trends of fungal diseases, diagnostic algorithms, fungal diagnostics, laboratory strengthening and outbreak management, economic impact of fungal infections in animal and food sector, will be held during conference.


Sessions on, common fungal infections in Pakistan; invasive candidiasis; aspergillosis; mucormycosis; cryptococcosis; mycetoma and chromoblastomycosis; and other difficult to treat fungal infections, will also be part of the conference.
